Che and Bike

Image size 15.5” x 21.5” supplied mounted.

The first time I went to Cuba with my husband Raul in 1997, I wanted to see where he was born. This involved a four-hour drive and a six-hour walk into the countryside of Guantanamo Province. I took this image about an hour after we started walking – it wasn’t posed. Raul told me that many artists in Cuba, in order to pay back for their training, are expected to create images like this in many different places. Another of my favourites has ‘The trees are the lungs of the world’ written within it.
