We visited Baracoa on market day. Since I was a young woman, I’d loved Murillo’s painting in the National Gallery of ‘A Peasant Boy Leaning on a Sill’ and I was immediately struck by this modern-day version of the painting come to life. The colours too were muted and traditional, which added to the illusion.
